2012 Holiday Calendar

Nov. 30, 2011 by Dan Pflederer

Wesleyan University’s Holiday Schedule for 2012

For 2012, the University will observe thirteen (13) holidays.  Ten (10) of these occur on the following dates:

New Year’s Day Monday January 2
Martin Luther King’s Birthday        Monday January 16
Memorial Day Monday May 28
Independence Day Wednesday July 4
Labor Day Monday September 3
Thanksgiving Thursday     November 22
  Friday November 23
Christmas Eve Monday December 24
Christmas Day Tuesday December 25
New Year’s Eve Monday December 31

Three additional floating holidays, chosen by you with the approval of your department head, are also granted under the University’s holiday policy for 2012.

Classes will be in session on Labor Day.  Administrative staff employees who are required to work on Labor Day by their department head will receive an additional floating holiday for 2012.  If required to work that day by their supervisors, bargaining unit employees should follow the provisions outlined in the “Holidays” section of their respective union contracts.  Supervisors and department heads must receive cabinet level approval before requiring any employee to work on Labor Day.

At this time the University plans to continue to close most offices and maintenance operations during the Christmas – New Year’s holiday period (Monday, December 24, 2012 through Tuesday, January 1, 2013).  If you are not required to work, you will be asked to cooperate in this effort by taking vacation, personal days, or elective floating holidays on Wednesday, December 26, Thursday, December 27, and Friday, December 28, 2012.  Offices will re-open Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

We hope that this information will be helpful for you to plan for the holidays.  Please call the Human Resources Department at extension 2100 with any questions.
